The Unbroken Colt of Palm Sunday

The disciples were sent to get a colt for Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

Several translations say that it was an ‘unbroken’ colt. As such it should have been resistant and bolshy, even as the cloaks were first thrown over its back. But not only the cloaks - it allowed Jesus to ride on its back. And then, seemingly compliant, it walked along the road into Jerusalem amidst, noisy jostling crowds.

A completely unexpected situation - the King of the Jews entering the holy city on a colt, which should have bucked and kicked, and thrown Him off, but which was completely compliant and accepting of the Jesus’ presence.

This made me think of all the people I pray for (and some I’ve given up praying for!) who are completely resistant and bolshy about hearing and accepting the invitation from Jesus to follow him.

Maybe these unexpected and different times that we are in now through the coronavirus situation are exactly when these people will unexpectedly accept the invitation. But that invitation has to be issued, so the Holy Spirit has laid a number of people on my heart that I need to make bold contact with.

Plenty then to occupy me during these long weeks of isolation, thanks to the faithful postal service and digital technology!
