SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW…

Christian Music Ministries,  January 2024

(For fuller details of all events, courses etc. see cmm.org.uk)

The carol singing is done. Christmas cards and decorations are removed, recycled or stored. Time to take a deep breath and get back into old routines, or maybe prepare to embark on the new?

Something old …

Most of the CMM diary for the year is a familiar mix of events: Musical-in-a-day sessions,  Worship seminars, Prayer ministry and so on.  These will mainly use the large back catalogue of materials, with occasional new music or arrangements as they are available.

  • Music Weeks are already planned for June and August, combining worship and teaching, learning  a musical and putting it on together, with holiday outings and friendships.

  • Heart and Soul, the weekly programme of Christian music and interviews on Wednesday evening is going from strength to strength on Brumside Radio.  (For details see brumsideradio.com).

  • Appledore Christian Music Festival in North Devon, inaugurated last year,  returns from17-19 May.  All are warmly welcome to come and join in.  An inspiring addition to a holiday in a lovely area.

  • The CMM Choir continues to meet and enjoy fellowship and teaching as they rehearse and share the story of God’s love

 We give thanks to God

  • for all these opportunities;

  • for the volunteers who travel to lead worship and prayer and minister in whatever way;

  • for the local people who book venues, sort out catering, and even offer accommodation to the itinerant team.

 Something new … a big year for CMM

 Even as the usual events are continuing, this year will be an extraordinary one for CMM.

  • It will be 40 years since Roger and Mary Jones (and their 4 children) took a step of faith, as he gave up his teaching post and its salary to embark on full-time itinerant music ministry.

  • It will also mark 30 years since Annie Routley, formerly of St John’s, became Roger’s assistant, as arranger, instrumentalist, conductor and much more.

  • 2024 will be 35 years since I became part of the CMM team, initially as a singer for one musical, then directing and writing the drama, and even some of the lyrics for the next, and two more after that.  And though I no longer direct or travel with the team, here I am, still writing for musicals, still hunting out rhymes for people to sing the Bible story.  Amazing how God can take a little step and make of it much more than we expect.

 Praise the Lord

  • for his provision in every way, and the continuing ministry;

  • for the variety of gifts he has given and the way he has inspired and used them;

  • for the many ways he invites each one of his children to join in his creativity.

Something old or something new?

Various celebratory events are planned through the year to give thanks for God’s goodness over all this time.  All are invited to come and join in, whether as singers, instrumentalists or even audience.  (Details will be on the CMM website - see above.) One of these celebrations will be a gala production of one the musicals. As mentioned previously, Roger and I have been working on a new production for a while. Depending on progress, we hope it may be premiered at this event…

Please join us as we pray

  • that this will be another opportunity to praise God and share his love

  • that we are open to what the Lord wants, and that he will always be at the centre of our efforts.

And finally…

Thank you for your prayers in the past, a truly vital encouragement over nearly 35 years.
