International Nepal Fellowship: Building for Mission Tithe Update - Olly Du Croz
International Nepal Fellowship (INF) is a charity with a vision of life in all its fullness for the most disadvantaged Nepalis, and has long-standing connections with St John’s.
INF was one of the grateful recipients of the Building for Mission tithe, as the money raised to transform our church building on Harborne High Street was shared to support mission work in other parts of the world.
The generous gift to INF will help fund a new Community Service Centre – often referred to as the mission centre, but not officially to avoid local sensitivities in Nepal – to be built in the city of Pokhara in western Nepal.
When INF was formed in the early 1950s there weren’t any Christians in Nepal. Now there are about 8,000 churches and almost 700,000 Christians.
This new centre, which is being planned by a group of more than 50 churches which join together as the Pokhara Christian Community, will resource the mission and ministry of local churches across the country. It will host Bible teaching and a range of activities to develop the next generation of Nepali church leaders.
It will also help churches replicate the social action work done through Asal Chhimekee Nepal (Good Neighbour Nepal), helping people in remote communities and those affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and landslides.
Raju Adhikari, Executive Director of Asal Chhimekee Nepal, said when Pokhara church leaders captured God’s vision to build this centre: “For seventy years we have benefitted from missionaries and their input, but now it is time for us to reach our own communities.”
The mission centre is currently going through the planning application process, with the hope that construction can start before the end of this year and due for completion in 2026.
Please pray for planning permission, for God’s blessing on the work of the centre once it has been built, and for the Church in Nepal.
Thank you. Visit www.inf.org.uk/church for more about the Community Service Centre, including a video message from Pastor Grishma Parajuli who leads one of Pokhara’s biggest churches.
